Forbhreithniú

Treoirleabhar é An Ghaeilge ar an Teallach, do dhaoine ar mhian leo roinnt Gaeilge a úsáid ar an teallach, sa mbaile, agus ar mian leo tógáil ar an nGaeilge atá á shealbhú ag na gasúir sna scoileanna áitiúla.

D’eascair sé as cúrsa a d’eagraigh Fóram Chois Fharraige um Pleanáil Teanga do thuismitheoirí i Limistéar Pleanála Teanga Chois Fharraige atá ar bheagán Gaeilge.

Treoir atá ann. Níl sé cuimsitheach ar aon bhealach ach is cinnte go dtreiseoidh sé acmhainn teanga fhoghlaimeoirí Gaeilge an phobail. Tá comhaid fhuaime ar fáil leis an leabhrán freisin. Cainteoirí as Cois Fharraige atá ann, is gnáthchaint na muintire atá le cloisteáil. Tugtar faoi deara cé gur duit agus daoibh a feictear sa litriú caighdeánach, is dhuit agus dhaoibh, faoi mar a deirtear i gCois Fharraige, a tugadh sa treoirleabhar. Sa mbaile, seachas sa bhaile, a bhíonn muid i gCois Fharraige!

Tá an Fóram buíoch do Nóra Seoighe, a réitigh an treoirleabhar, agus do Ronan Browne, Caitríona Ní Dhomhnaill, Máire Ní Neachtain agus Domhnall Ó Braonáin a réitigh agus a thaifid na fuaimghiotáin a théann leis na ceachtanna.

Overview

An Ghaeilge ar an Teallach is a guidebook which evolved from a course facilitated by Nóra Seoighe in Limistéar Pleanála Teanga Chois Fharraige for parents with limited proficiency in Irish. The intention is to support and encourage parents to use more Irish in home settings and also to support them in helping their children as they acquire Irish in school.

This guidebook is just that — an initial guide, and is therefore by no means a comprehensive learning resource.

Naturally, it focusses on the Irish of the Cois Fharraige area so some aspects vary from the official standard for written Irish. (There is, of course, no official standard for spoken Irish.) So while, for example, duit and daoibh adhere to standard orthography, they’re actually pronounced dhuit and dhaoib in the normal speech of Cois Fharraige. Similarly, we are sa mbaile rather than sa bhaile here!

We extend our thanks to Nóra Seoighe for the text and to Ronan Browne, Caitríona Ní Dhomhnaill, Máire Ní Neachtain and Domhnall Ó Braonáin who prepared, recorded and edited the following audio recordings.

These recordings, which follow the chapters of the guidebook, are provided as an aide to local pronunciation. Listen to the sounds carefully – the actors are good native speakers of the Irish of Cois Fharraige.
